Lewiston Maine Skate Park

Over the summer I had a chance to spend a few hours skating and taking photos at the skate park in Lewiston, Maine.  I have to say this park currently ranks as my favorite in the state.  I have not been to the one in Bethel yet and I know a new one was to be built in Bar Harbor on Mount Desert Island.  Lewiston is a real skaters park and the quality of skaters that frequent this park high.  I am looking forward to my next trip back to Lewiston!

The Winning Photo

In August I donated some of my time to the Bicycle Coalition of Maine to try and capture a winning photograph for a contest to win a new Yuba Cargo Bike.  The contest was sponsored by the Alliance for Biking and Walking and the cargo bike prizes would be supplied by Yuba Bikes.  I had a great time working with the staff of the Bicycle Coalition of Maine on this photo shoot and we had a killer location and prefect weather, what more could you ask for.  How about actually winning the bike, which in the end we did!  Sometimes things just fall into place and it is nice when it does.  Below is the winning shot from the Alliance for Biking and Walking's website. The BCM has not yet received the prize, as soon as they do we will capture the "after" photo and I will post it here.

SUP Photo in National Geographic Adventure

An image from a photo shoot I arranged last January was the lead shot in this months Long Weekend Guide to Portland, Maine on the National Geographic Adventure website. Portland locals Todd Swinton and Eddie Zelonish braved the January cold to paddle their stand up paddle boards around the Portland waterfront.  Todd and Eddie are true adventure seekers and are always doing something fun outdoors in and around Portland no matter what the wetaher and time of year.

Saint Joseph's College of Maine Summer Magazine Cover

In June, Saint Joseph's College hired me to photograph one of their alumni Nicole Ashton for their magazine cover.  Nicole is a professional nurse working in Boston, she also happened to be volunteering at the finish line of the Boston Marathon when the bombs exploded!  Nicole had not been back to Copley Square since the bombing and Marathon. She agreed to be photographed there with some apprehension.  David Swenson the magazine editor and I met Nicole at the Copley Fairmont Plaza Hotel and then walked around Copley Plaza to a few locations I had scouted earlier in the day.  Considering the trauma and experience Nicole had dealt with at the Marathon she was a professional for us and made my job of photographing her easy.  It was only when we had wrapped up that she let us know how hard being in Copley had been for her.  I can't imagine what she had experienced being a first responder on that day. We all saw the news photos and heard about the carnage. We are all lucky to have people like Nicole as part of our society.  As a photographer, it was a real privilege to be able to photograph a person who put their own life at risk to help others in need.

Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. South Portland, ME Office Staff Photo

In December of 2012 I was hired by VHB, headquartered in Watertown, MA to photograph the core staff members from their new South Portland, Maine office.  Even though it was December they wanted an outdoor image that would convey a feeling of the landscape this local office would now call home.  After scouting numerous locations Bug Light Park became the obvious choice.  With a clear but cold day on our hands my assistant and I work efficiently to light and shoot this nice group photo right near the light house.  After the group shot we also grabbed outdoor headshots of each team member.  Since this photo shoot, I have been hired on numerous occasions by VHB to provide indoor head shots of new staff as they have been brought on board and the office has grown.
