A discovery for the new year

Attempting to clean out some piles and get ready for the coming year I stumbled upon an old Kodak Photo CD Rom.  It was from 1997 and contained a small edit of about 50 scanned images I had shot while working on staff for the Anyplace Wild TV Series.  This was an adventure travel TV series that ran on PBS and was produced by Rodale Press.  While the funding for the TV series lasted (about three years) it was my dream job.  I traveled the United States and abroad to document and shoot photos in some of the most scenic and often challenging places.  My subjects were of a team of skilled TV and magazine professionals engaged in a new outdoor adventure every month.  Searching the CD I came across some rare photos of me actually working on location.  It has been 13 years since I have seen these photos and I am happy to have stumbled across them.  The locations include the jungle and caving in Southern Belize, Caving in Arkansas in the Buffalo River Wilderness and on-location off of Hurricane Island in Penobscot Bay, Maine.  Seeing these photos brought back some great memories and also has gotten me excited about new adventures for the coming year ahead.

A look back at 2010

With another year about to head into the history books I thought I would look back through my files and choose one image from each month of 2010 to share.  The images were edited out of a selection of my personal projects, assignment outakes, family moments and random moments I was lucky enough to capture while traveling and at home in Portland, Maine.  I am looking forward to 2011 and wish everybody a happy and healthy New Year!

On my way to get coffee

The UPS man had just dropped off my new Canon 16-35 F/2.8II.  I grabbed a body attached the lens and dashed out the door hoping to get some new test photos with the lens before the sun set.  I needed coffee so I thought I would park on Congress street near CBD and walk around shooting till the light in the sky was gone.  I parked my car looked up and this is exactly what I saw.  Shot with a 5D MK2 16-35 F/2.8II, Exposure: ISO 200, F/8 @ 80th of a second at 29MM.

Porsche RS America

A few years ago I was lucky enough to "baby sit" a 1999 Porsche C4. My brother who is the owner now, lives in the Atlanta area had found a previously owned one in Manchester, NH.  He had asked me to go check check it out and if looked good, buy it for him. He would fly up at a later date to take possession of the car and drive it back to Georgia.  To make a long story short the car was in great shape, I bought it and had a blast for a month.  One of the best things about that C4 was how easy it was to drive around town.  Needless to say I was very sad to see the Silver C4 leave my driveway for good.  I have always loved the 911 and that car left a lasting impression, not to mention a perma smile.  Now fast forward to yesterday and I had just received an email from a friend. Todd wrote to me letting me know that his work associate and friend Cliff was about to put his Beautiful and rare 1993 Porsche RS America into heated storage for the Maine Winter.  Perhaps I could photograph the car before this yearly ritual happened.  I had seen the car around town and always wondered whos car it was?  Todd connected me and I called Cliff to set the shoot up, I was out the door with my gear within a half an hour.  The day was perfect to do a car portrait.  It was overcast, a little spritzing rain and there were fall leaves all over the ground that created a nice contrasty scene with which to photograph the pristine car.

Cyclocross Racing at Pinelands

Mens Elite racing, day 2 of the Downeast Cyclocross weekend, this was round 4 of the Verge Race Series.  Adam Meyerson ( Cycle-Smart)  fought hard for his very first win in this series.  The weather was perfect and the corse was dry which made for a fast race.  Last years race was mud bath and I am sure the racers were happy for the firm surfaces to ride on.  More of my images from this race can be view here.
