Corporate Photography

These images are three selects from assignments I completed this past Fall.  The clients here range from a high end law firm, successful internet based start up to a national energy company.  All of the clients needed clean and strong images of their executives and employees.  Two of the companies are based in Portland and the third was based in Florida.  The two local shoots were pretty straight forward but the third assignment was at the Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant in NH with my client in Florida.  That shoot required more logistical back and forth and a very limited time frame in which to complete the assignment once on location at the Power Plant.  We photographed in the Seabrook Reactor Control Room Simulator during a training session for the reactor room operators.  Pictures were started at 7AM and shooting was done by 7:30AM so the operators and technicians would not be distracted during the training.

Clint Chase Boatbuilder

On the coldest day of the year so far, -11 this morning, I met up with boatbuilder Clint Chase in his Portland shop to create an environmental portrait.  I had crossed paths with Clint last summer at the Maine Boats, Homes and Harbors show. He was doing a demo that showed off his fine boat building skills.  I made a mental note to track him down in Portland when I had some time in my schedule.  We chatted last week and this morning got to work.  He recently moved into his new larger shop on Fox Street and is quite busy getting ready for the Portland Boat Builders Show and taking care of customer orders for his custom boat kits.  During the shoot we connected and made plans for the warmer months to shoot some of his boats in the waters off of Portland.  Stay tuned for more of Clint and his sail and open water rowboats

Snow storm today

January has been quite the snowy month, we have "feet" of snow on the ground at the moment.  The skiing has been great and that makes me a happy camper.  We have had a number of big storms this month but my schedule has not allowed me to get out and create some new storm photos.  Today was my lucky day!  I made it out to Deering Oaks Park and then down to the Old Port to capture Portland in the snow.  This is the bridge over the Deering Oaks Ravine.  This park dates back to 1879 when it was designed by Portland designer and city engineer William Goodwin with the assistance of Frederick Olmsted.  In the Spring, Summer and Fall months this park is home to one of the best farmers markets on the East Coast.  This morning it was so quiet you could hear the snow flakes landing.

Winter Cycling Portrait

One of the things I love about the Winter in Maine is the light.  With shorter days and the sun lower in the sky there is almost never a bad time to be outdoors shooting photos.  On the days that are crisp and clear you are almost guaranteed a vibrant and rich evening sky as the sun sets.  Of course if you were out with Zach Magoon and I the other night that also means freezing cold temperatures and wind chill if it's blowing.  Still, just because it is cold outside is no excuse to stay indoors to take photos.  The dramatic evening light awaits for you outside, dress warm!  Zach Magoon is a fantastic art director, outdoorsman and cyclocross racer and was my subject for last weeks winter portrait.  We shot these photos and more in the industrial Bayside Neighborhood of Portland near the Public Works lot and sand depot.  I use a brand new Lastolite Ezybox with my Canon 580EX strobe and a Quantum Q4D strobe to light Zach.  Camera used included my Canon 5D MK2, Lenses; Canon 70-200 F/4 IS and a the new 16-35 F/2.8 II.

Trail running at Ferry Beach

Yesterday afternoon ultra runner Jeremy Bonnett and I got together for a late afternoon photo shoot on the trails at Ferry Beach in Scarborough.  In the morning when we made plans, the forecast looked good for a  bright colorful sunset but instead we got snow.  This was not a big surprise as the weather this week has been unsettled. Working with Jeremy was easy, he is an awesome and talented athlete and brings a ton of enthusiasm to the set.  Jeremy is working toward doing more sport modeling and TV.  We have been talking for a while about creating a portfolio for him and yesterday was the start of this fun process.  We plan on doing a number of photo shoots together over the coming year to capture Jeremy in all seasons doing a variety of active sports and also some urban lifestyle scenes.  I am looking forward to our next shoot.
